Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures
The major in Middle Eastern languages and cultures is offered with specialization in one of two tracks: literature and culture, or language.
Major
24 semester hours, at least 21 of which must be upper-division, consisting of the following:
- Six semester hours of upper-division coursework in a single Middle Eastern language, chosen from Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, or Turkish, but excluding coursework conducted in English
- An additional 12 semester hours of upper-division coursework in one of the following tracks:
- Literature and culture: Middle Eastern languages and cultures coursework in Arabic-, Hebrew-, Persian-, and Turkish-speaking cultures and literatures
- Language: upper-division language coursework in Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, or Turkish; may be in a second Middle Eastern language, but excluding coursework conducted in English
