Academic Calendar

The academic calendar indicates key dates and deadlines for important academic requirements and/or activities including, but not limited to, the start and end dates of classes, holidays, exam days, and registration dates.

The academic calendar is set by the University’s Faculty Council according to the Principles for the Development of the Academic Calendar which are subject to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s Rules for the Common Calendar, found in Texas Administrative Code Title 19, Part 1, Chapter 4A, Section 4.5.  The calendar is typically divided into the fall, spring, and summer semesters.

 Long Session 2021-2022

July 23	Friday: Last day during the summer session that new summer session students, continuing students, readmitted students, and new graduate students can register for the fall semester.
July 27	Tuesday: Tuition bills for the fall semester distributed to students electronically. Notice is sent to the e-mail address on the student’s record.
August 13	Friday: New International Student Orientation Part I (this program is separate of the university required new student orientation session hosted by New Student Services; visit website for more information)
August 16	Monday: New International Student Orientation Part II this program is separate of the university required new student orientation session hosted by New Student Services; visit website for more information)
August 17	Tuesday: University required Orientation for new undergraduate transfer students that did not attend Orientation in June or July. Fall tuition payment deadline is 5:00 pm for undergraduate students who registered for the fall semester by Friday, July 23. Fall tuition may be paid in full or in installments.
August 18	Wednesday: University required Orientation and testing begin for new freshmen students that did not attend Orientation in June or July.

Fall Semester 2021

August 20	Friday: Registration for the fall semester for new undergraduate students and all graduate students who have not yet registered. Last day a graduate student may register in absentia. University residence halls open at 7:00 a.m. University Health Services benefits become available to registered students.
August 23	Monday: Registration for the fall semester for new, readmitted, and continuing students who have not yet registered. Add/drop for the fall semester for students who registered and paid their minimum tuition and fees by Tuesday, August 17.
August 24	Tuesday: Registration and add/drop for the fall semester for all students.
August 25	Wednesday: Classes begin.
August 30	Monday: Fourth class day; Last day of the official add/drop period; after this date, changes in registration may require the approval of the department chair and usually the student's dean. Last day undergraduate students may register without the approval of the registrar. Last day graduate students may register and pay tuition without the approval of the graduate dean. Last day law students may register and pay tuition without the approval of the dean. Tuition payment deadline is 5:00 p.m. for graduate and law students. Tuition may be paid in full or in installments.
September 6	Monday: Labor Day holiday.
September 10	Friday: Twelfth class day; this is the date the official enrollment count is taken. Students who registered after July 23 must pay their minimum amount due by 5:00 p.m. in order to confirm attendance. Second fall tuition date for students who have already confirmed attendance. All students must pay their remaining tuition amount due or be automatically placed on installment plan. Last day an undergraduate student may add a class except for rare and extenuating circumstances. Last day to drop a class for a possible refund. (See General Information, Academic, Policies and Procedures and Registration, Tuition, and Fees for details.) Last day a graduate student may, with the required approvals, add a class. Last day a law student may add a class. Last day a law student may drop a class without the approval of the dean.
October 13	Wednesday: Intrasemester reports due in the deans’ offices.
October 15	Friday: Final undergraduate tuition payment due date.
October 20	Friday: Last day to apply for a law degree. Last day a law student may register in absentia.
October 21-22, 25-27	Thursday-Friday, Monday-Wednesday: Academic advising for continuing and readmitted students for the spring semester.
October 28	Thursday: Last day an undergraduate student may, with the dean’s approval, withdraw from the University or drop a class except for urgent and substantiated, nonacademic reasons. Last day an undergraduate student may change registration in a class to or from the pass/fail basis. Last day a law student may change registration in a class to or from the pass/fail basis. Last day to apply for an undergraduate degree.
October 25-November 5	Daily: Registration for the spring semester for continuing and readmitted students.
November 9	Tuesday: Tuition bills for the spring semester distributed to students electronically. Notice is sent to the e-mail address on the student’s record.
November 12	Friday: Last day to apply for a graduate degree.
November 19	Friday: Last day a doctoral candidate may hold a dissertation defense for the fall 2021 semester.
November 22	Monday: Last day a graduate student may change registration in a class to or from the credit/no credit basis.
November 24-27	Wednesday-Saturday: Thanksgiving holidays.
December 3	Friday: Last day to submit master’s report, recital, thesis, doctoral dissertation, or treatise to the graduate dean.
December 4	Saturday: Fall graduation ceremonies in some of the colleges and schools.
December 6	Monday: Last class day. Last day a graduate student or a law student may, with the required approvals, drop a class or withdraw from the University. Last day an undergraduate may register in absentia.
December 7	Tuesday: Reading day in the School of Law.
December 7-8, 12	Tuesday-Wednesday, Sunday: No-class days.
December 8-11, 13-17	Wednesday-Saturday, Monday-Friday: Fall semester final examinations in the School of Law.
December 9-11, 13-15	Thursday-Saturday, Monday-Wednesday: Fall semester final examinations except in the School of Law.
December 16	Thursday: University residence halls close at 9:00 am.
December 17	Friday: Commissioning of ROTC graduates.
December 18	Saturday: Official graduation date. (No public exercises).

Spring Semester 2022*

January 3-6	Monday-Thursday: Registration for continuing students and readmitted students who have not yet registered. To complete registration, undergraduate students must pay tuition by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 6; graduate students and law students must pay tuition by 5:00p.m. on Friday, January 21.
January 6	Thursday: Tuition payment deadline is 5:00 p.m. for undergraduate students who registered for spring semester by Thursday, January 6. Tuition may be paid in full or in installments.
January 7	Friday: New International Student Orientation. For the most up to date information regarding orientation dates/schedules, please visit New Student Services website (this program is separate of the university required new student orientation session hosted by New Student Services; visit website for more information).
January 10	Monday: Orientation and testing begin for new undergraduate students.
January 11-14	Tuesday-Friday: Registration for the spring semester for new, readmitted, and continuing students who have not yet registered. To complete registration, undergraduate students must pay tuition by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 2; graduate and law students must pay tuition by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 21. Add/drop for the spring semester for students who have already registered and paid their tuition by Wednesday, February 2.
January 14	Friday: University residence halls open at 9:00 a.m. University Health Services benefits become available to registered students.
January 17	Monday: Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday
January 18	Tuesday: Classes begin.

Last day an undergraduate student may change registration in a class to or from the pass/fail basis. Last day a law student may change registration in a class to or from the pass/fail basis. Last day to apply for an undergraduate degree.
April 9	Saturday: 74th Annual Honors Day Program.
April 13-15, 18-22	Wednesday-Friday, Monday-Friday: Academic advising for continuing and readmitted students for the summer session and the fall semester.
April 15	Friday: Last day to apply for a graduate degree.
April 18-29	Daily: Registration for the summer session and the fall semester for continuing and readmitted students.
April 22	Friday: Last day a doctoral candidate may hold a dissertation defense for the spring 2022 semester.
April 25	Monday: Last day a graduate student may change registration in a class to or from the credit/no credit basis.
May 2	Monday: Last class day in the School of Law. Last day a law student may, with the required approvals, drop a class or withdraw from the University.
May 3	Tuesday: Reading day in the School of Law. Tuition bills for the summer session distributed to students electronically. Notice is sent to the e-mail address on the student’s record.
May 4-7, 9-13	Wednesday-Saturday, Monday-Friday: Spring semester final examinations in the School of Law.
May 6	Friday: Last class day except in the School of Law. Last day to submit master’s report, recital, thesis, doctoral dissertation, or treatise to the graduate dean. Last day a graduate student may, with the required approvals, drop a class or withdraw from the University. Last day an undergraduate student may register in absentia.
May 9-10, 15	Monday-Tuesday, Sunday: No-class days.
May 11-14, 16-17	Wednesday-Saturday, Monday-Tuesday: Spring semester final examinations except in the School of Law.
May 18	Wednesday: University residence halls close at 9:00 am (except for graduating students).
May 19	Thursday: Tuition payment deadline is 5:00 pm for undergraduate students who registered for the summer session during the spring.
May 20-21	Friday-Saturday: Graduation ceremonies in the colleges and schools.
May 20	Friday: Commissioning of ROTC graduates.
May 21	Saturday: Commencement (official graduation date).
May 22	Sunday: University residence halls close at 9:00 am for graduating students.

Summer Semester 2022

May 18	Wednesday: Maymester begins.
May 24-26	Tuesday-Thursday: Registration for continuing and readmitted students for the summer session for those who have not yet registered. Add/drop for the summer session for students who have registered and paid their tuition.
May 28	Saturday: Summer residence halls open at 9:00 a.m. University Health Services benefits become available to registered students.
May 30	Monday: Memorial Day holiday.
May 31	Tuesday: University required Orientation and testing begin for new undergraduate students (for the most up to date information regarding orientation dates/schedules, please visit New Student Services website).
May 31-June 1	Tuesday-Wednesday: Registration for the summer sessions; students who register on these dates can register for any summer session: first term, whole session, nine-week, and second term. To complete registration, undergraduate students must pay tuition by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 1; graduate and law students must pay tuition by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, June 3.
June 1	Wednesday: Tuition payment deadline is 5:00 p.m. for undergraduates.
June 2	Thursday: Classes begin for first-term, nine-week, and whole-session classes.
June 3	Friday: Last day of the official add/drop period for first-term, nine-week, and whole-session classes; after this date, changes in registration may require the approval of the department chair and usually the student’s dean. June 28	Tuesday: Last class day for first-term two-hour law classes. Last day to drop a first-term two-hour law class, with required approvals.
June 29	Wednesday: Reading day for first-term two-hour law classes.
June 30	Thursday: Final examinations for first-term two-hour law classes.
July 4	Monday: Independence Day Holiday.
July 6	Wednesday: Last class day for first-term three-hour law classes. Last day to drop a first-term three-hour law class, with required approvals.
July 7	Thursday: Last class day for first-term classes. Last day to drop a first-term class, with required approvals. Reading day for first-term three-hour law class.
July 8	Friday: Registration for students enrolling for the second term only. To complete registration, undergraduate students must pay tuition by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, July 8; graduate and law students must pay tuition by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12.
July 8-9	Friday-Saturday: Final examinations for first-term classes, including first-term three-hour law classes. Nine-week and whole-session classes do not meet.
July 9	Saturday: First session housing must check out of University residence halls by 2:00 p.m.
July 10	Sunday: Second session housing may check in to University residence halls starting at 9:00 a.m.
July 11	Monday: Classes begin for second-term classes.
July 12	Tuesday: Last day of the official add/drop period for the second term; after this date, changes in registration may require the approval of the department chair and usually the student's dean. July 30	Saturday: Nine-week session housing must check out of University Residence Halls by 9:00 a.m.

Last day to submit master's report, recital, thesis, doctoral dissertation, or treatise to the graduate dean. Last day to drop a second-term or whole-session class.
