Hogg Foundation for Mental Health

The Hogg Foundation envisions a future in which the people of Texas thrive in communities that support mental health and well-being. Using a variety of approaches, including grantmaking, convening, research and public policy, the foundation works collaboratively to transform how communities promote mental health in everyday life. Additionally, the foundation offers graduate-level scholarships and fellowships to encourage and support research and study in the field of mental health.

The foundation was established in 1940 by Ima and Mike Hogg following the death of their brother, Will Hogg. Ima and Mike envisioned a program dedicated to mental health, which had been a frequent topic of discussion with Will. As a young girl, Ima toured Texas state hospitals, schools and prisons with her father, Governor James Hogg. Those experiences inspired a lifelong interest in psychology and mental health, and led Ima to establish a separate endowment at the foundation to fund mental health services for children, youth and their families in Houston and Harris County. Since then, other benefactors have created additional endowments at the foundation to support its mission.

The foundation is part of the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement at The University of Texas at Austin and is located three miles west of the main campus at 3001 Lake Austin Boulevard.
