University of Texas Press
The University of Texas Press publishes approximately one hundred new books and eleven journals each year in both print and digital formats. Although books have been published under the University of Texas imprint since 1922, the Press was formally established in 1950. The imprint is controlled by a ten-member Faculty Advisory Committee appointed by the president and the Faculty Council.
In the years since its founding, the Press has become a publisher of international scope, issuing more than 3,000 works in a wide range of fields. Our books present the results of original research conducted all across the United States and Latin America and in centers of learning throughout the world. Our major areas of concentration are American Studies, Anthropology, Old and New World Archaeology, Architecture, Art History, Classics and the Ancient World, Conservation and the Environment, Film and Media Studies, Latin American and Latina/o Studies, Middle Eastern Studies, Photography, Pre-Columbian Studies, Texas and Western Studies, and Women's Studies.
In addition, UT Press publishes books of general interest for a wider audience on a variety of subjects, including history, current affairs, the visual arts, music, and food, among others. As part of its mission to serve the people of Texas, the Press also produces books on the history, culture, arts, and natural history of the state. Our publishing programs in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences extend far beyond the borders of Texas and even of the United States. We count among our authors some of the most respected scholars and writers in the hemisphere, including many from the University's Austin campus.
The University's reputation is built on its faculty, its nationally recognized centers for advanced study, and its renowned archives and collections in literature, history, art, and the sciences--sources on which the Press has drawn for decades. UT Press regularly collaborates with the Dolph Briscoe Center for American History, the Center for Mexican American Studies, the Center for Middle Eastern Studies, the School of Information, the Institute of Classical Archaeology, the Schusterman Center for Jewish Studies, and the Teresa Lozano Long Institute for Latin American Studies, as well as the Blanton Museum of Art and the Harry Ransom Center. Outside of the University, we publish books on Southwestern and Mexican literature and photography with the Wittliff Collections at Texas State University.
The Press also offers a fellowship program designed to give one year of experience in book publishing to the most qualified applicants. The objective of the program is to help prepare the fellow for a career in book publishing by providing intensive training in one department with exposure to and instruction in the operations of the other departments.
Located in the Printing and Press Building next to Disch-Falk Field in East Campus, the Press has an on-site warehouse, and the lobby is open for sales during normal business hours.
