Explore the idea that black progress is undermined by the activities and practices of certain black celebrities, leaders, and intellectuals whose attitudes, behavior, and politics differ from the black majority. Examine the history of labels that make reference to black identity, including "Uncle Tom," "Negro," "sellout," and various other denigrating names. African and African Diaspora Studies 315O and 317D (Topic 4) may not both be counted. Three lecture hours a week for one semester.
