Examine how premodern, modern, and contemporary classics of Japanese literature, film, and theater get adapted over the centuries, and how culture, politics, gender, genre, and medium influence the adaptation process. Asian Studies 320 (Topic 2) and 320C may not both be counted. Three lecture hours a week for one semester.
