Explores the structures of family, kinship, and religion in Japan since 1868 and their roles in the creation and expression of national and individual identities. Three lecture hours a week for one semester. Only one of the following may be counted: Anthropology 328F, Asian Studies 341R, 361 (Topic 38), Religious Studies 352F. Prerequisite: Upper-division standing.
