Traces the beginnings of the "rebirth" (renaissance) of the visual arts, from the end of the Middle Ages to the heyday of the Medici. Works of art are analyzed both in formal terms and in relation to contemporary society, religion, philosophy, economics, statecraft, gender, and other significant issues. Three lecture hours a week for one semester.
