Fundamentals of spectroscopy, with knowledge of elementary quantum mechanics. Separation of electronic, vibrational, rotational and spin quantum states; interaction of radiation and matter; theory and application of different types of spectroscopy including photoelectron, electronic absorption and emission, vibrational (infrared and Raman), rotational and magnetic resonance. Three lecture hours a week for one semester.
