Explore what it means to produce and/or possess knowledge in the digital era. Examine how the World Wide Web functions as an archive of information; how science enters public conversations in digital forums; how networked infrastructure facilitates the production of digital information; and how big data may be the future of expertise. Approach digital culture through the idea of the commons, assuming an interdisciplinary perspective, drawing insight from various literatures and methodologies. Communication Studies 340D and 367 (Topic: Digital Commons) may not both be counted. Three lecture hours a week for one semester.
