Examine the genre of epic literature through its evolving representation of war and conflict, with specific attention paid to political, social, historical, and artistic contexts, as well as to its historical reception in art, literature, film, and music. Core Texts and Ideas 344E and 375 (Topic: War and Epic Literature) may not both be counted. Three lecture hours a week for one semester.
