Review of the history and evolution of the construct of race as a psychological and social phenomenon. Multidisciplinary but primarily social-psychological approach: in addition to readings from psychology, ideas in the areas of anthropology, sociology, and biology will be discussed. Emphasis on theoretical and conceptual approaches toward understanding the psychology of racial thinking. Only one of the following may be counted: African and African Diaspora Studies 352C, 372D (Topic 1), Educational Psychology 354J, 362 (Topic 6). Three lecture hours a week for one semester.
