Designed for students with no previous coursework in Japanese. Emphasis on basic skills in listening and speaking Japanese and in reading and writing hiragana, katakana, and kanji. Introduction to Japanese culture. Includes computer-assisted instruction. Japanese 601D and 506 may not both be counted. Japanese 601D and 507 may not both be counted. Six lecture hours a week for one semester.
