Introduction to theoretical perspectives, methodological issues, and empirical work in the sociological study of culture. Examination of sociological accounts of the production, reproduction, and reception of culture, with an emphasis on a critical understanding of culture in relation to other sociological phenomena such as power, inequality, and identities. Sociology 307G and 308 (Topic: Culture and Society in the United States) may not both be counted. Three lecture hours a week for one semester.
