The graduate degree programs in speech, language, and hearing sciences provide training in speech/language pathology, audiology, and speech and hearing science.
The Doctor of Audiology (AuD) provides academic and clinical education for those who plan to enter the profession of audiology. The degree program involves preparation for the diagnosis and non-medical treatment of hearing and balance disorders; it is designed to prepare audiologists to meet the standards for Texas state licensure in audiology.

Admission
Applicants to the program must meet the requirements for admission to the University given in Admission and Registration; however, satisfying these minimum requirements does not guarantee admission. Each applicant’s credentials are scrutinized by members of the faculty of the program. No single criterion, such as grade point average or Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) score, is given undue weight in the decision process; every attempt is made to assess the special strengths that the applicant might bring to the program.
Licensure
Students seeking professional certification in audiology must meet coursework and clinical requirements specific to the specialization or area of study. Information about certification requirements is available from the graduate advisor.

Degree Requirements
The program is designed to be completed in three years, plus a fourth year consisting of full-time clinical externship coursework. All preprofessional students in audiology complete the same set of core courses and basic clinical practicum. Research practicums are part of the curriculum, culminating in a Capstone research project at the end of the third year. A dissertation is not required. Clinical practicums include on-site and off-site clinical training and placements, culminating in a one-year externship during the fourth year.

Additional Requirements
To be counted toward the degree, all coursework in the major must be at the graduate or upper division level. Individual study programs must be arranged in consultation with the graduate advisor.
Professional Liability Insurance
Professional liability insurance is required of all students enrolled in off-campus clinical practicums in speech/language pathology or audiology. The insurance policy must cover the duration of the placement, beginning on or before the first day of the placement and extending through the final day of the placement.
