Through a comprehensive curriculum, students build a strong professional identity while gaining the knowledge, skills and ethical grounding necessary for contemporary counseling practice.
This program is designed for students who aspire to careers in higher education, community mental health or integrated health settings, and private practice, or are interested in future doctoral training in counseling, psychology or related fields.
Graduates of the program are prepared to pursue a range of professional and academic pathways, including:

HDCLS emphasizes a learning community model that blends collaborative engagement and mentorship with both peers and faculty across the area. This flexible structure supports a wide variety of academic and professional goals.
Quantitative Methods. Students in the M.Ed. degree with a concentration in Quantitative Methods learn how to design and conduct quantitative research, analyze complex datasets and critically evaluate research findings. Coursework emphasizes choosing the right research designs, measures and statistical techniques to answer real-world questions in education and the social sciences, giving students both the theoretical foundation and hands-on experience needed to work confidently with data.
Students also gain experience developing and evaluating measurement tools, along with the computing skills needed to carry out advanced analyses.
