Admission
Admission to the program is very competitive. Admission decisions are made by Doctoral Admissions Committee and based on a consideration of multiple factors including the applicant's test scores, academic credentials, prior research experience in management and related disciplines, personal statement of purpose, and letters of recommendation.
Students must enter the program in a fall semester.

Additional Requirements and Policies
This program has two areas of concentration: organization science (i.e., micro-organizational behavior) and strategic management. For both concentrations, students must take four core and elective courses in the department that cover organizational behavior, organization theory, strategic management, and research methods. Additionally, students must also complete at least three courses in advanced statistics/ methods, two courses outside the management department that support the student's area of study (e.g., theory courses in the economics, psychology, sociology or political science departments) and ongoing research program and two other management concentration elective courses. Students will typically complete their entire coursework by the end of their second year in the program.
A key objective in the student’s development as a scholar is writing papers that will be published in top tier academic journals. Students will be required to write a first-year paper in the summer following their first year and present it in the fall semester of their second year. The quality of the student’s work on the project is a factor in evaluating the student’s progress in the degree program.
Students will be required to take a comprehensive examination, which assesses their knowledge of research methodology and of their chosen content major (e.g. organizational behavior of strategic management) and content minor (e.g. organizational theory) areas, in the summer at the end of the second year.
Once students obtain a successful pass in their comprehensive exam, they can proceed to apply for doctoral candidacy and undertake dissertation research, which concludes in a written dissertation and an oral defense before the student’s dissertation committee. Students normally complete coursework, research, and the dissertation in approximately five years.
