A history of the West Africa region: the rise and fall of kingdoms, relations with Europe and Asia, the great revolutions of the nineteenth century, colonial administration, decolonization, and the search for economic development and political stability since independence. Three lecture hours a week for one semester. Prerequisite: Upper-division standing.
