Explore themes of modernization, migration, international relations, gender, and labor through literary and cinematic texts about Beijing, Hong Kong, Nanjing, Shanghai, and Taipei. Consider certain historical moments and the notion of Chineseness in an increasingly and culturally deterritorialized world. Three lecture hours a week for one semester.
