BME 344C BME 344C. Introduction to Therapeutics. 3 Hours.

Restricted to biomedical engineering majors. Introduction to the biological and engineering underpinnings of therapeutics discovery, development and manufacturing. Focus on the quantitative and engineering principles relevant to growing cells and producing molecules for commercial purposes, including basic growth kinetics and stoichiometry, simple bioreactor design and oxygen transfer. Three lecture hours a week for one semester. Only one of the following may be counted: Biology 335, Biomedical Engineering 339, 344C, 377T (Topic: Introduction to Therapeutics), Chemical Engineering 339, 344, 379 (Topic: Introduction to Therapeutics), Molecular Biosciences 337 (Topic: Introduction to Therapeutics). Prerequisite: Upper-division standing, Biochemistry 369, and Biology 311C or 315H with a grade of at least C- in each.
