GEO 660 GEO 660. Field Geology. 6 Hours.
Restricted to geological sciences majors. Identify sedimentary structures, measure and describe stratigraphy, and make interpretations of physical, biological, and environmental conditions preserved in modern and ancient deposits. Develop an understanding of field mapping methods, structural geology interpretation and analysis, crustal tectonics, basin formation and dynamics, landform evolution, and the geologic history of the Rocky Mountains. Perform field work including camping and dormitory stays, with exposure to high-elevation work and diverse weather conditions. Three lecture hours a week for two semesters. Prerequisite: For 660A, Geological Sciences 416S, 416E, and the following with a grade of at least C-; Geological Sciences 420K, 315L, or 405. For 660B, Geological Sciences 660A.
