Examine the political thought of Montesquieu and Rousseau, the premier thinkers of the French Enlightenment. Use the themes of conservatism and radicalism to consider the thinkers individually and as a pair. Three lecture hours a week for one semester. Government 351N and 355M (Topic: Fndtn of Conservat/Radicalism) may not both be counted. Prerequisite: Upper-division standing and six semester hours of lower-division coursework in government.
