SOC 323E SOC 323E. Economic Sociology. 3 Hours.

Examine sociological perspectives on a range of economic matters including money, activities of firms and corporations, consumption of goods and services, market behavior, organizational malfeasance and economic crisis, and the production of labor market inequality, as well as economic behavior in less traditional settings such as markets for intimacy and markets for human goods. Learn about some of the major economic transformations that have reshaped social life in recent decades, including financialization, rising income inequality, corporate decline, and shareholder value management. Consider how sociologists have contributed to understanding the causes or consequences of these trends. Three lecture hours a week for one semester. Sociology 321K (Topic: Economic Sociology) and 323E may not both be counted. Prerequisite: Forty-five semester hours of coursework.
