Subjects include makings and meanings of diaspora, the differences and similarities between diaspora and related concepts such as race, nation, and cultural identity. Focuses on the making of the black Atlantic world, and comparative analysis between black diasporic life and that of other global dispersals, particularly among Asian and indigenous populations, and how resistance serves as a key link. Only one of the following may be counted: African and African Diaspora Studies 315R, 317E (Topic 2), Anthropology 310L (Topic 7). Three lecture hours a week for one semester.
