Same as African and African Diaspora Studies 360Q, History 365G (Topic 25), and Women's and Gender Studies 340S (Topic 2). Examine the history of Black women and mass incarceration in America. Explore how race, class, and gender have historically influenced the production of crime and unfair criminal justice policies. Investigate why mass incarceration matters, what its historical legacy is, and how it impacts Black women today. Three lecture hours a week for one semester. Only one of the following may be counted: African and African Diaspora Studies 360Q, American Studies 365G, History 365G (Topic: Black Womn/Mass Incarceration), 365G (Topic 25), Women's and Gender Studies 340S (Topic 2). Prerequisite: Upper-division standing.
