Examines why the Parthenon is of relevance today for a global audience. Subjects include the postantique lives of this unique monument as a Christian cathedral and pilgrimage site, a mosque, a ruin, and an archaeological icon; the various debates about its restoration and preservation; and the problem of cultural ownership. Three lecture hours a week for one semester.
