Explore German-speaking Europe's century of global wars, modernization, and political transformations from World War I through World War II and the resonances of the Cold War. Focus on how cultural movements and landmark texts in literature, visual arts, film, and digital media reflect transformations in cultural history and social values. Three lecture hours a week for one semester. German 343C and 344K may not both be counted. Prerequisite: Three semester hours of upper-division coursework in German with a grade of at least C.
