Examine and discuss a selection of the most relevant theories of political, social, and moral emancipation that have marked modern history. Focus on the works of political theorists, political militants, historians, and writers who have advocated visions of liberation from political oppression, social exclusion and discrimination, moral emptiness, and totalitarian domination. Three lecture hours a week for one semester. Government 351F and 355M (Topic: Visions of Emancipation) may not both be counted.
