Explore the ancient civilizations of Mesoamerica, the ways in which they are studied, the landscapes they inhabited, their worldview, and the persistence of the past into the present. Discover how different societies manifested a core set of beliefs shared by all Mesoamerican civilizations while at the same time maintaining local cultural identities. Assess changes in Mesoamerica both spatially and temporally from the Archaic Period through the Spanish Conquest, colonialism, and into modern times. Three lecture hours a week for one semester.
