Overview of the basic mathematical and computational tools central to the analysis of neural systems in a laboratory setting. Subjects include linear algebra, differential equations, filtering, correlation, probability, and inference, with an emphasis on quantitative methodology and applications to neuroscience. Three lecture hours and one and one-half laboratory hours a week for one semester. Prerequisite: Mathematics 408D or 408M, and Neuroscience 335 with a grade of at least C- in each.
Mathematics: Mathematics 408C , or 408N or 408R and 408S Statistics and Data Sciences 320E Primary science: Biology 206L and one of the following sequences: Biology 311C , 311D , 325 Biology 315H and 325H Neuroscience 330 Neuroscience 335 Neuroscience 340 Twelve additional semester hours of neuroscience, chosen from: Biology 353S , 359K , 367C , Neuroscience 170C , 270C , 337 , 365D , 365L , 365N , 365P , 365T , 365V 365W , 366C , 366D , 366E , 366L , 366N , 366P , 366S , 367F , 367S , 367V , 367W , 371M , 377 , 379H , 466G , and 466M . The research topic in Neuroscience 379H must relate to neuroscience and be approved in advance by the faculty advisor.
