Same as Asian Studies 361C. Explore the political economy of South Korean development during the postwar period. Examine the history, society, and culture of South Korea. Discuss compressed modernity, developmental state, social movements, gender politics, financial crisis, urbanization, migration, and recent globalization of Korean popular culture. Three lecture hours a week for one semester.
