Explores American conceptions of property over a wide range of economic transformations from the mercantile to the digital age, with special attention to the ambiguous and tension-filled meanings of property for women, African Americans, and Native Americans. Three lecture hours a week for one semester. Only one of the following may be counted: African and African Diaspora Studies 350W, 372C (Topic 3), American Studies 370 (Topic 38). Prerequisite: Upper-division standing.
