Same as Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies 345 (Topic 13). Examine power and resistance in contemporary Russia in a systematic way to allow engagement with larger, theoretical questions about state-citizen interactions beyond the margins of the liberal project. Consider examples from Russia and Eastern Europe to develop methodologies for studying how state power is analyzed "from below" by ordinary citizens seeking to shape politics and policy. Three lecture hours a week for one semester.
