An examination of the phenomenon of colonialism, with an emphasis on the European expansion across the globe that began at the end of the western Middle Ages and continued throughout the early modern period. Three lecture hours a week for one semester. Only one of the following may be counted: European Studies 346 (Topic: Early Western Colonialism), 346 (Topic 15), History 362E, 362G (Topic: Early Western Colonialism), 362G (Topic 5). Prerequisite: Upper-division standing.
