Introduction to theories of the nonprofit sector and individual pro-social motivations and behavior, while also covering basic principles and techniques of fundraising. Receive practical instruction from fundraising professionals in the local nonprofit community on all aspects of a successful fundraising operation, from building a solid base of annual contributors to cultivating relationships with major gift prospects. Attention will be given to behind-the-scenes activities required to have a successful development program, including appropriate donor stewardship, prospect research, database maintenance, and donor analytics. Three lecture hours a week for one semester. Sociology 321F and 321K (Topic: Effective Philanthropy) may not both be counted. Prerequisite: Forty-five semester hours of coursework.
